The handloom enterprise of Bihar is of cultured heritage. From handloom survey, 3.66 lakh weavers in the state have 77 thousand looms for processing. It is well known that after agriculture, the potential for self-employment in handloom enterprise is immense. It is suitable for the same type of environment. The handloom industry of Bihar is spread in almost all the districts of the state. It is densely spread in some districts like Bhagalpur, Nalanda, Siwan, Madhubani, Sitamarhi. Multicolor bedsheets, oriental (buta) curtains and bedsheets of Bihar Sharif region, Ranchi border sheets and trival design bedsheets, table mats, ball hangings, shawls made in Madhubani dhoti saree surfacing are also very popular in the country. More than 60 crore silk and mixed silk fabrics are exported from Bhagalpur.Tasar and mixed Tasar sarees of various types are quite popular.
