From handloom survey, 3.66 lakh weavers in the state have 77 thousand looms for processing. It is well known that after agriculture, the potential for self-employment in handloom enterprise is immense. It is suitable for the same type of environment.<\/p><p>The handloom industry of Bihar is spread in almost all the districts of the state. It is densely spread in some districts like Bhagalpur, Nalanda, Siwan, Madhubani, Sitamarhi.<\/p><p>Multicolor bedsheets, oriental (buta) curtains and bedsheets of Bihar Sharif region, Ranchi border sheets and trival design bedsheets, table mats, ball hangings, shawls made in Madhubani dhoti saree surfacing are also very popular in the country. The silk and staple textiles of Bhagalpur region are in great demand abroad. Various types of sartings, coatings, furnishing materials of Tasar, Matka, Mulbari and Undi produced in Bhagalpur are quite popular. More than 60 crore silk and mixed silk fabrics are exported from Bhagalpur. In fact, it is a way of life for millions! Sericulture, a ray of hope in support of better perform performance. A rural based, high employment generating, profitable enterprise plays a vital role in the socio-economic development of the rural people. Also being an excellent foreign exchange earner, today, Silk industry ought to excel by producing quality silk to beat the challenges of the changed global marketing trends. The financial support is continued by Central silk Board, Bengaluru and the state Government. Sericulture has special significance in poverty elevation as it is labour incentive, less strenuous, require less capital and has good market. Sericulture generates sizeable employment opportunity in the rural areas particularly for women. Silkworm farming is an agro-based traditional activity that has played an important role in generating income and employment for people living in rural areas. It is ideal for rural areas as it requires low capital, is labour intensive thus creates jobs and it is commercially attractive. This type of Sericulture has shown significant promise, after Mori culture, which has been the leading source of world silk.<\/p><p>In the state three types of silk exist i.e., Mulberry, Tasar and Eri has been Mulberry, Tasar and Eri has been commercialized.
